Designing Design – seminar med John Heskett

Strategies for Danish Design – practice, research and education. Second seminar on designing Danish design, lead by Professor John Heskett.

This second seminar builds partly on the first seminar held in the spring of 2008. The program will to some degree begin with the conclusions from March, and the analysis done by the participants in the meantime. It is not necessary though to have participated in seminar 1 in order to attend the second seminar.

The overall goal of the second seminar will mainly be to make the conclusions from seminar 1 more operational. This means to go deeper into details on issues like:

  • The opportunities for design practice, and the competencies and skills required to succeed
  • Design policies in Denmark
  • The challenges for design education
  • The potential for design research
  • The roles for various organizations within industry and the design field
  • What can design contribute in order to make politics more transparent and strengthen democracy?
  • Socially – how can design contribute to a better society that is both efficient and caring?
  • Culturally – what can design deliver in terms of values that enhance life in a society?
  • Think the unthinkable, vision driven design futures

The two seminars should at the end be able to present a list of recommendations for action and a concluding paper or manifesto for Danish Design.

The language of the seminars will be English
